About us

About

Glen Feeds & Food Stores Ltd is two businesses under one roof. We trade the raw materials that go into animal feed, and we mill finished feed under our own name. A customer can buy a lorry of maize germ to mill themselves, or a bag of Glen Dairy Meal ready to feed – and often the same customer buys both.

What we deal in

On the trading side we hold energy sources – maize germ, pollard, wheat bran, rice polish, broken maize and wheat, molasses – and protein sources including sunflower and cotton seed cake, soya, copra, canola, groundnut, omena and fishmeal. We also carry the minerals and additives a mixed ration needs: limestone, cattle and magadi salt, toxin binders and enzymes.

On the milling side we produce compound feeds for dairy and beef cattle, layers, broilers, kienyeji birds, pigs, goats and working dogs, in 10 kg, 20 kg and 70 kg bags.

How we trade

  • Weight. Every bag and every lorry is weighed. What is on the docket is what is on the vehicle.
  • Grade. We tell you what a consignment actually is rather than what it might be. Where an analysis exists for the batch you are buying, ask and we will send it.
  • Price. Quoted per consignment. Raw material prices move with the harvest, the ginning season and the exchange rate, so a price list published today would be wrong next week.
  • Transport. We deliver country wide, and we confirm availability and transport cost before any payment is made.

Quality and safety

Feed ingredients are only as good as what is not in them. Maize germ comes sieved and free of foreign matter. Groundnuts are checked for aflatoxin before they move, and a consignment that does not clear does not leave the yard. Where a batch has been analysed, the figures are yours on request rather than on a poster – a protein percentage printed on a website is a claim about every bag ever sold, and we would rather tell you what is true of the one you are buying.

Placing an order

Tell us the material or feed, the quantity and the destination. We confirm what is on the ground and what transport will cost, and only then does any money change hands. Most enquiries are answered the same working day. For large volumes, call ahead – supply on some lines moves with the season, and it is better to hear that before you send a lorry.

Who we supply

Dairy farmers mixing on the farm, poultry keepers running layer and kienyeji flocks, commercial feed millers buying by contract, and agrovets and stockists buying at wholesale for resale. A small order gets the same grade and the same weight as a large one.

Where to find us

Our yard is at Munene, near Jubilee Church, Thika, Kiambu County, open Monday to Saturday from 7:00 to 18:00. Call ahead for large volumes and we will confirm what is on the ground before you travel.
